Camp Huntiington - Gummy Cherry

Why Not Choose a Rare Elegant Adirondack Floor?

Adirondack Wood Floors
Adirondack Gummy Cherry, considered an American Exotic, is one of the most sought-after of the Adirondack hardwoods. A stunning hardwood, known for its beautiful range of color, simple grain, and satiny texture spanning the spectrum of reds and browns. Over time, the tone deepens to a rich auburn and shows gold and reddish highlights creating a visual treat. The color variation occurs greater and at a quicker rate with this species.
Adirondack Gummy Cherry is a moderately dense wood, with a close grain and a fine, even texture and uniformly straight grain that adds warmth and character to any home.
Average tree height is 60 to 80 feet. Cherry trees can live to the extreme ages of 150 to 200 years. The oldest cherry tree known to science had reached to the extreme age of 258 years.
Gummy cherry differs from standard cherry in that the wood grain is full of sap pockets and brown streaks that give the wood a very elegant figured look.  If you are looking for something truly unique and in short supply then Gummy Cherry may be the perfect choice for you.
Because of the unique graining and coloring of American Cherry flooring, many homeowners like to use it in wider planks. Planks 5 IN. and wider will show the natural beauty of American Cherry, but won't look too busy, like it might in a 2-1/4 IN. strip.
Our flooring is engineered with a 4.5mm wear layer to best maximize the use of this wood.  That wear layer is engineered to the plywood base, which supports it for superior structural stability, leading to minimal expansion and contraction, creating a floor with a long life.

Camp Huntington
American cherry is best suited to areas that experience gentle use. Did you know that American Colonists used the cherry tree for its fruit, medicinal properties and home furnishings. They mixed cherry juice with rum to create Cherry Bounce, a bitter but highly favored cordial. The bark was used in the production of drugs to treat bronchitis, and cherry stalks were used to make tonics. Early printmakers used cherry for their engraving blocks. Cherry helped define American traditional design because Colonial wood workers recognized its superior woodworking qualities.
Cherry was used by the Greeks and Romans as long ago as 400 B.C. for furniture making.
It is not typical for American Cherry trees to grow east of the Mississippi River. It is a native tree to the North American Adirondacks.
